This turret appears to be from a Pensacola class heavy cruiser. This class cruiser was in service from 1929 to 1947. It is not from ww1 nor is it a German turret and it was not salvaged from Scapa Flow.

They are mistaken. This turret was salvaged from Scapa FLow in Scotland after WW2. It is from a German ship, not an AMerican one. I'm sorry to say this, but having been to the Nevada Test Site about a dozen times, I never knew when they were tell the truth and when they were lying. The administrators of the former NTS have tried to clean up their image for decades, and sometimes by distorting the truth..

This is in fact a turret from a US Heavy Cruiser. http://www.nv.energy.gov/library/publications/historical/DOENV_715_Rev1.pdf
